Super Elders!

Monday, November 17, 2014

Gilson is 37 and is from Sao Pablo brasil. He got baptised 8 years ago but went inactive for a while and now has like 6 months back in the church and is preparing for the temple. He has like 8 months in Chile now so he is learning Spanish too and he is awesome! He leaves with us all the time. No he isnt married, but hes looking!! I basically understand portugese now because of him haha but cant speak a single word. (Gilson is someone that Curt told us about that goes out teaching with them all the time.. I was asking about him in my letter)
The ward here is kinda small. We have like 110-115 people going every week and the goal is 120. There are about 1100 members registered on the list. sooo ya. We work with less actives, or try too. haha- we used to eat with an Hermana in the ward, but we changed and we eat at the Bishops house now for lunch and we pay her (his wife) every day.
Sounds fun visiting with everyone at home! Cant believe Ammon is leaving so fast. I was thinking about our Culture Celebration the other day because they have one in Chile that celebrates all the spanish speaking countries that is pretty cool. Im proud of you guys for giving service!! Thats super cool. We visited a Hermana in the ward with TWO missionaries out, a son and a daughter, and she was sharing what she learned from the Book of Mormon with us. I told her it made me happy to see her so strong like this and it gives me hope that my parents are that awesome at home too! I love you guys!!
This week was so fast! But two main things. Well really just one. But one small thing is that we had another Earthquake last night! But it was super small this time but still cool. And the more important thing is we had stake conference. One thing i really liked was a talk about pray. The parents of the speaker turned the chairs of the dinner table facing the other way and that way, they had to have a kneeling prayer before turning the chairs around and eating. He said that the parents teach a child to pray by example and by family prayer. Im grateful for the moments we have had together in prayer. And when we lacked in this aspect, i am grateful looking back for whoever would pressure us to do so. I remember a seminary class with Brother Goss where he told us that we should pressure the family to have pray. Although I was youngest and we didnt have it EVERY single night, I still tried to remind the family. Never think that you are too young or too inexperienced or anything to tell someone else the right thing. Nephi did exactly that with older brothers. If there isnt family prayer, have it. If there isnt family reading, read. If the whole family isnt going to church, find out why and solve the problem with love and kindness. We are in families for a reason, love and appreciate every member that is under your roof and without its walls. Im so grateful for the family and home i came too and would never change it. Thank you guys, i love you! Keep up the work
Elder Farnsworth

PS For P day in the morning, we grilled at the church. And before conference, i made German pancakes! Thought of you mom!
verse and a sentence or something about it, BUT of stuff they read that week!

HEY FAMILY
Whats up guys. Once again, you are doing a bunch of cool things without me. Going to Mexico, luckkkkyy. But thanks for the photos and im glad that Grammy and Grandpa are doing good! Mom, i did get the package this week! really fast this time. But we dont have mail this week. And the news of Transfers....Im staying!! this doesnt surprise me but what does surprise me is that Elder Sovero and the other two missionaries in our ward stayed too! Actually our whole zone...there were like no changes in the mission..but its cool!
This week was pretty boring. But we had a activity Top Chef Elder Sovero. He cooks peruvian food really good so he taught members and investigators how to do it! This was on Halloween. They celebrate halloween here but not a lot and they just copied the States like 15 years ago.
Saturday we were giving service and we came home to shower and work in the night. Elder Sovero was walking to light our water heater (we have to turn it on with a match every time) and i was taking off my shoes. All of a sudden, i hear a noise from our room and a cat runs from there and runs into me and then jumps out the window that was open! Haha i guess that teaches us not to leave the window open.
We are really working with the Bishop now and we have more confidence. We had a meeting with him this Sunday. He was using Google Maps to show where Less Actives lived and then he said ``tell me your addresses and we can see your house!´´ haha so we did that and we saw the chapel and house of me and Elder Sovero to compare countries. Pretty cool technology.
This week was difficult but me and Elder Sovero have plans to change and leave this sector strong. Having finished the Book of Mormon recientely, im really thinking about that. I encourage you guys to be reading the Book of Mormon as much as possible. Follow what it says in Moroni 10 3-5. I did so one day when Elder Sovero was showering. The time you have alone, peaceful and quiet, is the time when you receive revalaccion. Im greatful for this Book and the continual answer that i have received. I know it is true, and from this, I know the Lord is my Savior and that we have a Plan to return to Him. Im grateful for the prophets and their guidance. I know Im in Chile for a reason and it isnt just to get to know a new country and people. It is to know the One and Alone True and Living God. I love you guys and miss you, but if you are doing your part and Im doing my part, we are all good.
Love you ,
Elder Farnsworth

Ahhh hola familia,
Crazy with all the things that happened at home. Im so stoked for Ammon and would kill to go to the temple right now, let alone with my best friend for the first time. And Sage too, thats sick that hes home! Well sucks for him but haha its cool for everyone else. So you talked with Hermana Stanger? Shes in the office here haha shes the best, but shes going to finish her mission soon! And I emailed Chad and Hunter back! hopefully they got it by now...they celebrate Halloween here supposedly so we will see this week. But no trunk or treat thing here. well like nobody has cars but still, i think they should have something.
This week we had to go to this super rich part of town for the German Clinic (thats how it translates haha) and there were like all imigrants from europe and stuff and nice cars so it felt super weird. But that was a bummer because It took like all day. Then on Wednesday in Clase de Distrito, we learned that we need to be patient, obiente, and diligent in our work here. This is obvious but its really hard to completely fulfill all three perfectly all the time. But if we do that, we will be doing the work how the Lord wants.
I got the package! The best part is the Tabasco and Sour Patch haha! Nothing has flavor here compared to how im used to eating! I love it, thank you! And the stickers from Halloween are currently on my Comps scriptures hahah. He wants them there idk.
This morning, i was listening to music and a song that was ``super mormon´´ came on and i taught my companion that expression Molly Mormon and Peter Priesthood that kids call people that are ``super mormon´´. I was thinking about how stupid it was and why kids are like that. Really these names are being the same as Alma and the sons of Mosiah early on and they are degrading and fighting against the church. We should be more like the sons of Mosiah after wards, and not use anything like this. Respect people that are doing more in the work of the Lord. Dont diss them because they are doing something better than you. Other one of my ``super mormon´´ songs hahah was talking about his mission and testimony. It says something like, my testimony isnt going to come in the mail with my call or on the airplane, but you have to do it now. Find your testimony now if you are thinking about a mission. Dont expect it to come, but do something so that it does come. This is what i was thinking about this morning haha but really, do it!
Ive grown so much already and I see the problems people have here. they need help, and I can help. Im selfish if i dont. Go out and do something good today.
Love you guys!

Hola familia!
HECK YA IM SO STOKED FOR CHAD! El Salvador! With Will Bolby I think? Sweet! And the package thing you are saying sounds sketch, how can it come that fast. Speaking of which, my package that you sent a long time ago hasnt come still so i think this week. But whatever you want in that package! random candies or something that you got from mexico or i dont know! We have two more weeks until transfers. And thats weird about the photo you put! Vanesa one could be a youth in the ward but i dont know how they would find it and i dont know who the kid is haha. Gilson told me that a whole bunch of people were posting. He knows a little bit of english so you can try to talk to him haha and dad can talk to him in spanish.
But this week kinda sucked cause we were sick! But just a little bit, like a sore throat and head ache. But Im good now! We didnt have like anything exciting happen execpt we had to return the boot to the doctor at the CCM and we ate lunch there for old times sake and I talked with Hermano Spolmann my old teacher! He passed his english test with really high marks for BYU so hes probably going to go in January! Alli and Katie need to find him a wife haha hes so cool! And we had Zone Conference which was really long again but we got more advice and everything to help our ward and members.
We focused on two families this week that are really progressing. They both went to church and one of the families wants to get baptised and go to the temple and everything really bad, they just need to get married so we are working with that. They will be so strong when they start living right. The husband is reading like 20 pages of the Book of Mormon a night and is in Mosiah already. And he wanted a Gospel Principals books and Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Fielding Smith. Literally just need to get married and change a few things. Its so cool their testimony now. Before they would say that they would never get baptised but they liked us so they let us in. Now it has changed so much. I love working with people here. Its so hard sometimes because people have really different beliefs, but they start to change little by little. We hope to have baptisms with both these families in the future and have two really strong families. Even with the sickness and everything, this week was still awesome because of what we are doing. We taught a class about missionary work (imagine that) and it is literally a commandment. If we arent doing it, you are being lazy and need to do something more. President George Albert Smith said that you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven without having done missionary work. Think about it, if you have unlimited of something amazing, are you going to share it? Love the people around you enough to share the gospel.

On a funny note, we got our Zone t shirts from last change finally and they spelled my name wrong and the t shirts were horrible. We paid 10 mil which is basically 20 dollars. For a ironed on Nike symbol. Horrible.
I love you guys and hope all is well at home!

Found this picture on Facebook, posted by a member in Chile.  Curt said that he went with them on 18 lessons!  Thanks Gilson for the pic, and for supporting the missionaries there!

First Baptism and Failed Tortillas

Hola familia!
Wowwwww so jealous oh rocky point. Thats so crazy with the rain! Ugh im so jealous haha. This family we are teaching here loves Mexico. Well the wife does and she heard that you guys were there and was super jealous too! But thank you for the photos, its almost like i was there! haha Im trying to download them to my camera some how but i dont know. I sent a photo of my failure to make tortillas. Too thick! oh well...
But for this week, we finally changed houses! We are so much closer to where we normally work now and its super nice. The Hermana that lives in front of us is so nice and made us empanadas and like everything. Also is asking what we need! its so awesome. I guess this week i hit 100 days in Chile? The Hunters sent me a letter that said Open the 10th! That was 100 days and it had Pop Rocks and Kool Aid which i shared with my comp cause hes never tried them! Thanks to you guys for that! And also i gave my first blessing in spanish ahh. It was to a baby. It was hard, like I felt the promptings of the Spirit of what to say, just my spanish kinda stopped it a little. I still know the blessing works on the faith so that is what is important. But this week was really cool because there is a member here from Brazil (he actually added me and Dad on facebook so accept his thing and go on mine and accept too!) but he didnt have work this week so he went with us every day! We have literally only lessons with member present! It was so cool to help him too because hes going to the temple super soon for the first time.
I had a lot of water too this week, because we had a baptism!! My first one and I baptised him. His name is Miguel and he is 11 years old. When he finished his interview with our District leader, he was soooo happy and his cousin who is a little mentally and physically challenged was soo happy too and Ive never seen them like that. On Sunday (thats when the baptisms are here) he entered the water and was shaking. I thought ``oh great its cold...´´ but no it was really warm, he was just so nervous haha. But It was a really cool experience.
Im really excited to keep progressing in my knowledge here and help more people. Its so rewarding when we see changes and help people in their life. Please, if you guys know the gospel is true, then you should know we need to do more. We need to have a desire to share with other and bring this happiness to them. Help the missionaries, and teach lessons with them! It helps so much. We need to welcome new people to the church and help those who have fallen away. Keep doing all the stuff you already are and more! Love you guys, enjoy your week! I pray for you guys and everyone back home every day!

Hola Familia!!
Oh my its already PDAY!! But this week was so cool! Well mainly conference but ya ahha. To answer your questions first, Conference for us is everyone in the stake center for every session because there arent a lot of people with televisions and cable. And there is a seperate room for ingles. We went to two sessions in english cause my comp wanted to hear it and the room was full for spanish!! But for spanish it is just a voice over of the english. Except the 2 spanish talks!! And i understood more or less everything in the spanish sessions.
The grand canyon sounds amazing and I was thinking about you guys the whole time! Super jealous and crazy good job dad! Less than 12 hours is good! I definitely want to do it a lot more when I get back. AYYY CHAD! Heck ya im so stoked. My guess is Germany for sure. Let me know! And im so mad, are you really going to rocky point this week...wow jealous again. But have fun! I havent got the package but I did get a letter from you guys, Dear Elders from Papa and a letter from the Hunters that says I cant open until this week! So im excitedly waiting that day.
Elder Sovero´s foot is still so-so. We are moving houses this Wednesday I believe so i am excited to live closer and everything!
This week we went to families as usually. One day, we went to one family and they gave us completos, and right after we had a meeting with another family, and they gave us completos! But some how I weight like 15 pounds less than the end of the CCM already and like 20 in total! They are so nice here, well some people haha. This second family that gave us completos made us balloon shapes (like the circus cause the dad knows how to) and made me a Mario and Elder Sovero a motorcycle! Haha that is the picture. oh the other picture is we made fried ice cream and french fries so i had to take a photo! Shout out to the HAKES for fried stuff haha. But this family is sooo nice. They have this HUGE cook book of like cookies and stuff and we likes some of the recipes so they said they were gonna photo copy all of it! Thats so much pages and stuff. So thats why i want one of our cook books from home to give to them. Its in english but they can google translate and I dont know haha its a problem but oh well I wanna do something.
We were really excited because they said they were going to come to conference and another family too, but last minute they both back out. We were so upset and stuff cause they are so good! But President Monson talked about how we are going to have hard time and walk the path of the Savior. He walked the path of disappointment and we will too. But also, he walked the path of service and love. We need to serve the poor (physical and spiritually poor). I believe it is Nephi, but i think Alma says something too, but they say, My tears watered my pillow at night for the unbelief of my brotheren. I understand. It is so painful to see potential not fulfilled. It is hard to have people not progress when you have so much faith for them. But Christ has the same for us. We have so much potential and fail so much. He has all the faith in the world, but we still have our agency to choose to follow Him or not. Please dont make the Lord weep and mourn for our wellbeing. Make Him rejoice in our successes. Make Him proud of our actions. We are the only people that can change ourselves. Choose now to live for our Lord and Savior. Decide today that you will live how God wants. I love you guys and Im so proud of what you are doing!
LOVE YOU
Elder Farnsworth
Have fun in Rocky Point send photos!

Oh wow the wedding looked so fun! I didn´t even know what food you had but all I know is that i wanted it...Ugh I want food from home so bad. Wow that sounds like so much fun with everyone there, im so jealous! I can´t believe you had a cut out of me there haha boo yah. Thats so legit though. Ahh i wanna see everyone haha sounds like there was so many people! And Ale and Lexi came AND brought me a watch?! What! haha dang shout out to the coolest cousins! Hows everyone doing!? Man what luck with the rain! And a Samoan sealer how cool! I heard reggae from Samoa in the streets the other day and i was so confused but it was awesome! Dang everyone is leaving now what the heck. There are so many of my friends out or with their calls or gonna leave. Like literally Im going to get back in 2 years and there will be nobody cause i was more or less the first.
Here we have conference in the stake center. Everyone does cause not that many people have TVs and Satellite. We always have the Liahona but im sure we can ask for the Ensign. I didnt know there was an article from Chile! Thats cool!
This week was not as slow but still a little bit. Didnt help that you had your birthday and Allisons wedding! But happy birthday! haha sorry my photo is stupid. Last Pday in the afternoon, Elder Sovero twisted his ankle on the curb and it hurt him pretty bad so we didnt work that night and barely the next morning. Then we went to the Doctor at the temple because he is for all the Santiago missions. He doesnt really speak spanish so i was more or less translating for him haha. Technically Elder Sovero should be in a boot for 2 more weeks but he stopped wearing it after one day because he said it hurt and was annoying. Ha. I had one for like 2 and a half months! But then we had Clase de Distrito on Wednesday with out new district and district leader. He was our old Zone Leader so I already know him. Hes super cool and funny. Elder Hix from Wyoming i think. But we have 14 Elders in our District now which is really big! And 3 new missionaries. The next morning we did service for a lady who cant go to church because of her sickness. It was super fun with the 4 Elders in the ward. But we are going to change houses now! Just the 2 of us so we can be solo and actually live in our sector. But that will change this week i think.
We had a lesson with a family this week and watched the Restauration video. They havent progressed much before this but the wife was asking if she could baptism her kids in our church but they are younger than 8 so we explained baptism a little more. There are going to go to conference with us and meet the prophet. Well not meet him idk how to say it in english. They said Queremos conocer al Profeta, so like get to know him or something i dont know hahaha. But it was a cool lesson. We had one of our investigators come to church for the fifth time and he really wants to get baptised so that is probably in 2 weeks because there is conference. So that will be cool because he was the first person i met in the mission field besides the other missionaries! We had a Home Evening with members and a investigator family and I think it was really successful. They are going to go to conference too! It is so weird here because conference isnt in your house on TV like it is for us. But Im excited! Hopefully I understand everything in Spanish. But nothing else really happened..a little slow still but the week passed so fast!
Im going to finish the Book of Mormon before the end of this transfer. Im learning a lot from it now. I see it a different light as a missionary. But the more I read, the more i realize the stories and the pride cycle of the people. Wickedness always comes when we lose sight of what matters. We are here because of God, what we should do is focus on God. THEN we can do the other things. Everything is spiritual before it is temporal. We cant let a day pass that we dont read the Scriptures or that we dont pray. There shouldnt be a Sunday that we dont go because we are lazy or dont feel like it. The Sacrament is so important for our week. There we renew our convents of Baptism and should promise to change something this next week. It is so important that we devote our time to Christ first. Please help the missionaries in your ward. This work isnt just of the missionaries. They cant do it without you guys. Priesthood holders, it is still your responsibility to help the ward and the church. Do this by going with the missionaries to lessons. Those preparing for your missions, go with the missionaries and learn from them. Thank you for all that you are already doing, and keep doing it.
I love you guys and missed you a lot this week! Hope everything was good with company and the wedding!!
Love Elder Farnsworth

Hey family!
Ya I got Allison´s wedding anouncement. How crazy!! And your birthday is tomorrow right mom? Big week! Im missing a lot but oh well! WOW Jamis is going to St George? Thats so cool for him haha he almost came back to Arizona. And Boston with Jared! Man everyone is going! Uh oh..I hope it doesnt rain for the wedding haha what luck. It never rains in Arizona and now it has a high chance! Im so jealous about D. Todd Christofferson. That sounds amazing. And the topic about light in our lives is so cool. The scriptures always say that light is Christ. So all those things you said bring Christ into our lives more. Wow theres so much going on at home!
But here was crazy too. Well for us it was pretty slow...but this week was basically the 4th of July of Chile haha. The day is the 18th of September but they celebrate like all week. We went to an investigators house the night before and the husband was already drunk. He usually never talks but he was talking so much this time. He said we are all sinners and was just ranting so we couldnt really teach. But they invited us to lunch the next day so we went. Then he wasnt drunk haha and we had Asado and it was sooo good. That is the photos! We stayed there for a while but didnt do much else that day because everyone was partying. It was super slow. But the next day, we had a Ward Party in the Church. We were in charge of the games and it was really fun! We had pollo asado again but it is so good so im not complaining. There were a lot of dances typical de Chile and they were super interesting. Everyone is asking me this week what i know to dance cause everyone dances here. I was like uhhh oh well...Hahah and everyone asks ``What are typical gringo games?´´ but like literally they play the same things here and call them typical. Minus their kites and tops, those are different. But that was all day in the church and super fun!
But this week was cambios! or Transfers i guess but nothing happened! We arent moving. Nobody in our ward is so all 4 of us are living together still. Elder Sovero is mad but i think hes starting to change his heart. Hes been here a long time in Cerro Navia so ya..But nope, nothing changed with us. And the newbies arrive so now Im in my second Transfer as of today!
We continue to work with these families and continue to struggle to get them to come to church. It is hard because they are so nice but just arent willing right now to put in their own effort. Alma 5:46 (i think, maybe 48) talks about working and praying and fasting to find our own answer. We all need to do this. We never completely have our answer, but we can continually grow our faith. Im trying to finish the Book of Mormon this transfer which shouldnt be that hard. But it is so important that we read from the Book of Mormon and the Bible daily and pray daily. I cant wait to see the change in someones life when they realize this importance.
It was kinda a slow week so thats it, but i hope all is well at home! Crazy week this week, i hope it is fun! Love you guys and miss you a lot!
